The Feast of St Catherine in Barnet

On Sunday 24th November 2024 His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis celebrated the Divine Liturgy, marking the parish feast of St Katherine the Great Martyr, in Barnet, North London. The Very Rev Archimandrite Damianos Konstantinou, Priest-in-charge, concelebrated with His Grace and the Rev Deacon Gregory Florides also served. The honourable mayor of Barnet, Cllr Tony Vourou and the president of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK, Mr Christos Karaolis, were graciously present. Both Mr Heracles Oikonomides and Mrs Eleni Strati were honoured with the Archdiocesan Cross as a token of the church’s appreciation for their tireless work and contributions towards the Greek Orthodox community of St Katherine. Mrs Strati has been renowned for her assistance in the organisation of the community, particularly leading the Ladies auxiliary committee and several pastoral and philanthropic initiatives. Mr Oikonomides has faithfully served the community as the chanter for over thirty consecutive years.

A Lenten meal was kindly offered to the reverend clergy and distinguished guests at a local restaurant, organised by Mr Kostas Christou, president of the community.

His Grace Bishop Iakovos conveyed His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas’ blessings and wishes for a blessed Advent and continuation of the Christmas fast, as well as health and spiritual growth as we prepare to celebrate the nativity of the Emmanuel, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
